Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

He's so arrogant and self-centered I'm pretty sure he'd assume that:

A. His supporters will rally to his children in the event of his death
B. Even if they lose, they need that November-January window to pardon each other of all crimes as thoroughly as possible.
