They playing the long game. The arms embargo against them is about to expire next month. That’s a major big deal because Iran will be able to buy modern conventional weapons from Russia and China to make life miserable for US allies in the Mideast. Had they retaliated it would have lead to more sanctions and an extension to the arms embargo. The arms embargo expiring is lowkey a major game changer. Hence why the Gulf states are normalizing ties with Israel.
