Cameroon looked terrible despite the point. No Onana or Aboubakar so will see if they make a difference against Senegal. Haven’t been impressed with them under Song.
Breh, we are washed. Cameroon does not have a coach. They left Choupo for no reason. Aboubakar is old and hurt. Senegal should win this easily.

Tomorrow is the last day for GS matchday 1 and thus far, only one game that’s been below 1.5 goals. No game has been 0-0 and only 2 red card issued so far.

Last AFCON goals were a bit scarce to start and there were at least like 4-5 red cards issued through the first matchday

Gradual improvement

Surprised by this Mali scoreline. South Africa dominated 1st half without enough cutting edge. Now Mali 2-0.

That Percy Tau missed PK hurt em bad. Mali is one of my dark horses.

Missed the game but this sounds like South Africa all the time. Great technique and can hold possession well but no finishing

Almost through first matchday of this tournament and still appears very wide open.

Interesting thing about SA is that the country is probably the most industrialized on the continent with fairly good infrastructure in terms of a solid domestic league (Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates) . Why hasn't that translated to significant representation in solid European clubs and teams compared to their other less industrialized, less rich sub-Saharan African counterparts like CIV, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana?

Is it a cultural thing where players just feel comfortable at home as opposed to take a risk and go compete where best world club football is being played (Europe). This is a question irrespective of today's result and instead just SA football scene.

Same reason we don’t see a lot of SAs outside SA…the country is well developed and comfortable. No need to immigrate overseas where you start at the bottom relatively speaking. Besides, them SA men ain’t tryna ball, they wanna be Amapiano DJs lol

Jokes aside, if a country like Nigeria was as uniformly developed as SA, you’d hardly see us outside the country. Maybe only for holiday and shopping. Most of my Naija guys in the US are actually looking to relocate/keep a residence in SA.

But to the footballing point, its a similar situation to a degree with the North African nations, especially Egypt. Very good domestic league but very little representation in the biggest Euro leagues.

If you’re a star player at Al-Alhy or Zamalek, you’re also a local celeb. Why not be king at home than a prince abroad? Especially if you’re making good money..
