That’s literally not my issue with his speech, but thanks for playing
You literally said he should’ve said some motivational shyt and then said Jay Z and Beyonce should act more becoming of the station they have achieved. Jay Z has given speeches at all of those award shows - Rock and Roll HOF, etc., doing just that and you’re mad about who knows what because son got up at the most BS award show and said fukk yall. If “buy my old albums” ever applied to something this is it.

Exactly lol. I have no idea what @dora_da_destroyer is rambling about. Jay Z got up there and said what people have said for years and she’s mad he didn’t make white people comfortable or act happy to be there. Jay Z’s been saying motivational shyt for the past 7 years relax.
the only thing that keeps me from fully sympathizing with Hov and B is that they try so hard to get the Grammys right that it's done at the expense of every Black award show that wants to shower them with awards and accolades to the point where it causes Black people to ignore their own award shows unless there's fukkery involved. Country artists don't bytch about the Grammys because all their own shows get crazy shine and they award themselves appropriately there. Hov hasn't done a Black award show since he started growing those Jar Jar Binks dreads.

This is true. And I fully agree. He and Beyonce could really make the BET or Source Awards mean something again.

She should too. What’s your point?

That people can't complain while also reaping the benefits of the same thing

Grammys have even created categories for Beyonce and Jigga/Kanye to get more Grammy wins
We fought for inclusion and got it
We fought for award recognition and got it

Now nikkas wanna fight for mediocre albums to win AOTY awards cause mediocre Cac albums won

When the reality is that she ain't got no Miseducation in her 😐

Lionel had a lot more juice in the industry. Price was a solo act In isolation in a fly over state. It is what it its.
Breh… Purple Rain was the only album to rival Thriller. The movie was career defining. Objectively speaking, if we’re talking albums sales, impact and culture changing… there’s no reason Purple Rain should’ve lost since Thriller won the year before.

And I fukked with that Lionel album heavy but it was nowhere near Purple Rain’s level.

I liked the second half of Jay Z speech cause it’s all true and way overdue to be said on stage by someone who won’t suffer consequences for it :yeshrug:

A black woman hasn’t one AOTY in 25 years that’s crazy. However you feel about her music, Beyoncé getting snubbed 3 times is crazy, especially for Lemonade and Renaissance and who they lost to. Taylor Swift potentially breaking a record for AOTY is undeserving and also insane. Adele and T. Swift being set up as unbeatable at the risk of deserving black artists is bs. We all know it but it’s always good to reiterate. He didn’t lie.
He basically took a page out of Ye’s playbook a decade later

They definitely ain’t the award show to put on for hip hop, but they have showered jay in awards, including an impact award. Again, my issue is with this petty speech in context to the award he was winning. Like fukk the Euro Hov petty shyt, it would’ve been nice to hear some motivational shyt when winning an award like that
I can feel you on the motivational stuff, but don't most people who win an award go up there and act all positive? Work hard, follow your dreams, and you will achieve them, blah, blah, blah. If he got something to say that may be uncomfortable for some people to hear and he feels there should be change, I can't think of a better time than when they are actually giving him an IMPACT award.
