Holmes and Campbell are the heroes of this rebuild but Sheila Ford Hamp is the silent angel that made it all possible. She took over the team in 2020, fired those two dipshyts Quinn and Patricia, then hired Chris Spielman and Barry Sanders as advisors to find the right people to run the team (Holmes and Campbell).
She went and got two of the most beloved Lions ever to get this team on track and it worked. Crazy how quickly a team can turnaround with competent ownership.
It's nice that she stays in the background too and isn't running around looking for credit lke Jerry Jones or Robert Kraft.
Can’t help but think about the stark difference between Sheila’s hires and the process her mom went through to get Quinn and Patricia. We got a front row seat view of how the good old boy system works. The NFL got Ernie Accorsi to help Martha hire a GM and he simply steered her to his guy, Quinn. And of course Quinn bid his time until he could hire his guy as coach (Patricia) after a sham interview process.
Flip side Sheila sought out leaders who can collaborate. Who had a unique vision instead of wanting to turn us into the Patriots. How many washed vets did we have to sign back then because our draft picks were never ready. That was a problem with Caldwell too: draft picks rarely improving year to year. Now we have guys at nearly every level. To the point we can’t re-sign everyone, and Holmes will have to replace guys in the draft. And I have zero worries about that lol.
