These US networks never want to schedule Canadian teams. Just look at the national schedule this year (or any year in the past).
Makes no sense. You wanna draw in a casual audience, show the most exciting players and teams. This isn't 1980. People don't care where the players are located.
Problem is how bad NHL was marketed and promoted the game as well as the game is still stuck in the past on how it’s played for most part. All the other leagues are trying to outlaw defense and NHL is still in love with game management officiating, shot blocking, and conservative defensive play with obstruction and booking. You're right about their promotion though. McJesus, MacKinnon, Matthews, Kaprizov, etc. should be household names. So many exciting players right now. Very similar to the NBA.

I remember when scoring 100 points in a season was rare as hell this year so many dudes hit that mark

It would also help if some of their players had personality or the league pushed viral clips like crazy McDavid/MacKinnon/Zegras goals.
Instead, their only mainstream stories are about racism, sexual assault and players like Tom Wilson cheapshotting someone.
