I don't even think it's cynical to suggest here that they're just reading the tea leaves, hedging their bets, and per usual looking out for their own self interests here.

None of them are comfortable with Bernie as the nominee, but they realize that if he wins the nomination they have more to lose if the public perception is that they're undermining their own party's nominee for president.
