My earlier suspicions are proven correct after listening to this Kendrick on 2 sets of speakers and 2 sets of headphones

This shyt is mixed terribly.

And I think that may be what is causing me to not be able to get into some of the songs:lupe:

The bass is waaaaayyyy too thick and loud on lots of these songs. It sounds like an amateur mix job. No way did Dr. Dre have his hand in this, no fukking way

The problem that arises is it muddies the mix and hides some instrumentation, it is fatiguing to the ears, and is distracting. This leads my mind to wander off while listening, and also takes me out of some songs

In contrast, GKMC was perfectly mixed and sounded the same on every system you play it on. TPAB sounds wildly different on different systems. Not a good look

OK, I think I'm done bytching about the album. Hate to be that guy since I like Kendrick so much and I greatly appreciate what he put into this.

I don't doubt Kendrick had sincere ambitions when making this album, but it just doesn't work for me. I have tried at least 3 different times and I end up with the same feeling. The production on paper seems like it should be amazing, but ends up all over the place to me. His voice changes on certain songs also annoy me. The weird thing is after hearing this album, I appreciate his first two more now.

With that said, I think it's great for an artist on his level to release a "conscious" record in this day in age. He is taking a BIG risk. In the longer run, this could inspire the next generation of artists to realize they don't have to just make commercial songs.

i assume i can file baroque pop/english folk under this thread. been revisiting some old nick drake records. very underrated artist and doesn't have enough material as he passed way before his time. his stuff is very nature influenced (and depression depending how you interpret it) this is one of my favourite songs by him

Good rankings.

I'd move Kendrick to 9 and Father John Misty to 8.5, then bump down Bjork to 8.
