Albums:

Foals & Local Natives had the most keepers, but I wasn't blown away by anything as a whole album. This year's been more 1-2 song per a large grouping of albums.

Songs:

Baths - Ossuary
Cold Cave - God Made The World
Iceage - Ecstasy
The Knife - Full of Fire
Phoenix - Bourgeois
Thee Oh Sees - Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster
Wild Nothing - Ocean Repeating (Big-Eyed Girl)

That Dean Blunt record is probably my second favorite non rap release this year.

Album of the Year: MVOTC

(MVOTC has spoke to me on so many levels. I read some quote about how music, art, movies, you don't really find them, they find you when you're ready for them. There hasn't been an album in my life that's really articulated that notion ever, and I never really understood it until I heard MVOTC. I mean, I'm in my mid-20s. I think MVOTC is the manifesto for people in their mid-20s. It literally touches on everything I was thinking about before I heard the album. It's just an absolute piece of work top to bottom. Plus I've liked VW since the beginning, it's great to hear them grow and make music as great as this)

- Runner Up: RAM

Song of the Year: Ya Hey

- Runner Up: The Strokes - Tap Out

Though there is a special place in my heart for Soft Will. Gonna go see them in August :lawd:

Been giving this Arctic Monkeys a serious listen though. Forgot how much I loved them.

I agree 100% about Modern Vampires, it really is a true piece of art and there are moments that transcend beyond 'music' and into some other realm of art. (Ya Hey, most notably).

My absolute favorite, personally impactful lyric of the year (and one of the best lyrics I have ever heard in my life) kicks of the album: "You oughta spare your face the razor / 'cause no ones gonna spare their time for you"

As an album full of singles, it is marvelous and yet somehow it still retains the sound of a singular piece of work which is not easy to do with so many fukking amazing singles

If I were to make a full song of the year list, Vampire Weekend would probably have 6 or 7 of my top 20. It is ridiculous.

The thing that is most amazing to me though is that I was never a big Vampire Weekend fan before this album. I liked a few songs here and there, but didn't really latch onto them as a whole. But they truly dropped an all-time classic here, not something that is just noteworthy to a small set of people but something that the vast majority of people would love and enjoy if they had the chance. Paul Simon has finally found worthy successors.

Not sure if any of you frequent dimeadozen: someone uploaded a 24 minute TV broadcast of a CHVRCHES show. (Nearly 1.9 GB) I can upload if there's any place that allows me to upload a file that large.

I was quite disappointed. The first album had some great tunes, played it a lot when it was released. The new album consists only of midtempo songs that never go anywhere. It's not awful or anything, just boring stuff.

Talking about boring stuff, the new Babyshambles single.. :ld:
