I generally do not like black metal, death metal, or any other type of metal you want to label a particular metal band. But this new Deafheaven album "Sunbather" has made its way onto my list of albums to purchase this year. It is really good.

You can stream it on Pitchfork or just search Google if you want to give it a shot

My list of albums purchased or in line to purchase is longer than it has ever been in a year, and we still aren't even to the halfway point yet. I always buy albums that I would consider an 8/10 or above, and I don't give out 8's lightly. I am seriously in absolute awe of how many good albums are available right now, it is crazy.

I can't even imagine what is still in the pipeline too...I mean, I know of some big ones like Boards of Canada and Arcade Fire, but who knows what else I will discover. My updated list for 2013 so far:

9.5 or above
The Flaming Lips "The Terror"
Vampire Weekend "Modern Vampires Of The City"

9.0 or above
Youth Lagoon "Wondrous Bughouse"
Colin Stetson "New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light"

8.5 or above
James Blake "Overgrown"
Local Natives "Hummingbird"
Foxygen "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic"

8.0 or above
Deafheaven "Sunbather"
Baths "Obsidian"
Majical Cloudz "Impersonator"
Autre Ne Veut "Anxiety"
Phosphorescent "Muchacho"
Savages "Silence Yourself"
Deerhunter "Monomania"
The Knife "Shaking The Habitual"
My Bloody Valentine "MBV"
Beach Fossils "Clash the Truth"
Iceage "You're Nothing"
Grouper "The Man Who Died In His Boat"
Clinic "Free Reign II"
Kurt Vile "Wakin On A Pretty Daze"

I liked the Rhye, but it didn't resonate enough with me to give an 8 too. It would be on my honorable mentions list for sure, and when I revisit everything again later in the year it may have grown on me.
