The Marines weren't up there for the most part, especially those in combat roles. We were holed in the Anbar Province / Sunni Triangle areas where most of the heavy fighting due to insurgency occurred.

From what I heard and read they were always mainly welcoming of US presence. They contributed to the initial military operations against the Hussein regime and I recall reading somewhere that there was not one US soldier killed by the Kurds the entire war.

From what I understand, their culture is relatively moderate and secular, and their military is elite. IS talks big, but there's only some 7,000 of them against some 40,000 peshmerga who are experts in asymmetrical and guerrilla warfare themselves.

Correct. IS would essentially have to deal with the same insurgency they used in the past to take the KRG territory.

Air strikes is p*ssy. If we really had beef wit deez nikkaz we'd be there with soldiers. This shyt can only breed contempt. And I like how Obama done became Bush Jr. It doesn't count as "ending the war [in Iraq]" IF WE STILL OVER THERE!
