Sales don’t matter now?

Illmatic was more influential was it not? No one was saying Ready to Die was the GOAT album in real time like illmatic.

Ready to Die really didn’t pop until the one more chance remix popped off because of Puffs marketing. Illmatic had a better debut and more critical acclaim. It was written sold faster than Ready to Die 2 years later.

Sales and impact was Nas :manny:
Why did you, oddly, switch the argument from RTD v Illmatic to RTD v IWW when the sales topic comes up ?

Please post the RTD v Illmatic sales numbers...

No Slick Rick, not valid, fukk Peter Rosenberg.
Yeah if I had to choose 4 I’d go w him, Ll, Rakim, and KRS. Those are considered the pioneers in NY to me not the best that’s a different four but I thought that’s what the mt Rushmore was about.

Ready 2 Die was double platinum after 1 year and Big Poppa was the #1 trap rack debuting #6 in the Hot100.

As far as more critical acclaim, don't know about that, perhaps in retrospect. Both albums were critically acclaimed. Rolling stone called it the best debut album since Amerikkkas most wanted, Source called Nas album the best debut. You'd need to go back and find all the magazines that were created on a monthly basis to gauge a broad spectra of acclaim.

Nas stans always turning back to a source review, written by a Chinese Ivy league girl for a magazine owned and operated by 2 Ivy League jewish cats and a some nerdy people like it was the only voice in rap and the streets. These people criticized people removed mics from rappers like Big and Jay for being too vulgar :mjlol:
I don't know how it was in NY, but in 94-95 Big was much bigger than Nas out here. Nas didn't fully take off nationally until the Lauryn Hill stimulus 2 years later.

We really trying to rewrite history like Nas was some sales juggernaut that outsold BIG? :gucci:
