Alot of times
a leg kick is enough to make someone
before a fight starts.
somebody's speaking my language
Good old gedan mawashi geri(low roundhouse kick)
And people underestimate them so much
"I wish a nikka would kick me in da leg ima knock dat nikka out"
I like to demonstrate it's err uhh.. "effectiveness"
..by letting someone hold a Thai pad against their thigh and then I throw a few.
It never fails to bring out the
face at how much that shyt hurts lol.
My brother, the 4 years and counting Wing Chun practicioner, scoffed and laughed at my taking "Kroddy".
I tried to explain to him like, "listen big bro, there are different styles of Karate. I'm doing Kyokushin. It's not like what you're thinking.." etc etc
He continued to completely disregard it, constantly calling it a joke. He would also constantly challenge me to take the hour ride to his crib and spar with him to "show him what I got", his words.
He would also say, "I promise I'll take it easy on you". Things like that
.
I would constantly decline his offers to "spar" and just nonchalantly change the subject.
I didn't want to go there with him, as I knew he was out to prove something on some insecure 'big brother' type shyt lol.
But noooo, he constantly keeps throwing shade on my Karate, to which I constantly remind him that I do Kyokushin and that it's not what he thinks, to which he just laughs like
Well, fast fwd to the last family gathering we had. I week prior he'd been telling me- not asking -but
telling me we were going to spar when he got there.
So I just said fine
The day of the gathering I brought my "gloves"(too thin to really call them gloves) and shin guards, and my Thai pads just for the kids to punch and kick on.
Well as I'm out there holding pads and letting everybody beat on me he decides he wants to hold.
I was like cool
Showed him how to hold it jodan(high) height n let loose like two..saw his
entire demeanor change. Made sure the last kick was just hard enough to make the pad smack him in the face
Inexperienced people, no matter how strong they are, have a rough time holding pads for someone, and I knew that
Then I was like..
hey bro, hold it down there on your thigh
He obeyed
looking like
I only made it mid swing of the 3rd kick before he couldn't take another one.
And that's
with padding.
You see, the Kyokushin leg kick isn't meant to strike the leg. It's meant to dig all the way through to the bone.
When you receive a Kyokushin leg kick that is where you feel it, in your thigh
bone.
Therefore, holding a pad does very little for you if the person kicking has bad intentions. Because the force of the kick isn't focused on the pad it's focused beyond the pad.
A well placed gedan mawashi geri makes a person's lower body twist very painfully at the hip/thigh junction and the pain shoots through the thigh
bone as well. Searing pain.
I knew this, he didn't.
You know what else he "didn't"? lol
He "didn't" want to spar later on anymore
Came up with all kinds of excuses, after months of badgering me, talking down on my art, completely disrespecting it.
"but come on man I brought all my stuff, we can just go light", I said.
He was like nahh
I was like, "you sure? we still have time"
and just kept prodding him over and over
"Nahh man it's a chill kind of evening yo".. he said.
Them damn gedan mawashi geris
And all it took was two of them (on pads!)
Well, one actually. He looked pretty convinced after the first kick.
But I sent the 2nd and 3rd(which didn't make it cuz he pulled back
) anyway just to make my point clear.
