I liked but I must admit its my least favorite Blu album.

My problem was the electornic beats can be hard to get into, well some more than others.

This was in the pipeline to be released (as if) last year, but Blu gave away copies of it during and after his sets at Rock the Bells. After that, he got dropped and the physical release was killed. I think Underground Hip-Hop is still offering physical copies of the album.

And yeah, you can tell who are fans of that Brainfeeder/Low End Theory sound, because we actually like the first 9 songs (I thought the first half was quite a bit better than the second half, the logical conclusion of The Piece Talks' noodling, and I quite liked the second half). I guess that consists of myself, Larry Legend and Yoda. It's at least the difference between people who prefer Los Angeles from FlyLo and people who prefer Cosmogramma (Of course, I'm firmly in the latter camp).

For the others, what is it that turns you guys off so much about it? Do you just hate electronics in Hip-Hop? Hate any type of experimentation with song structure which results in abrasiveness that you're not willing to adjust to? What's the rationale for disliking those first 9 songs so?

Crazy they dropped him for that. Who is he signed to now?

on first listen i was like :wtf: i cant get jiggy with this shyt. i had no inkling to give it another listen, until one day i was in the whip and just thought fukk it, ill give it another try.

threw that shyt on and it hit me like :ohhh::ooh::damn::gladbron::whew:

blu was spittin like crazy on that album, and out of all his shyt, it bumps in the whip the most. them same tracks i couldnt stand the first time became my favorites. this joint stays in rotation when im driving. it just aint really headphone music, unlike most of his catologue.

I just read a Blu interview and he said the plan was always to give promo copies of the album out.

Also the people that were overlooking his project at Warner got fired.

first half is better than the 2nd

above crenshaw, never be the same, soupa and SLNGBNGrs :whew:

Blu - Soupa - NoYork! - YouTube

been a fan since day 1 Blu's NoYork! is the best experimental hip hop album in forever - ProjectCOVO.com Global Forum

hours is dope too in a weird ass way. I can see why people would feel the traditional shyt more tho. If you aren't a fan of that Shabazz Palaces/Fly Lo type shyt, you ain't gonna like it. nikkas were expecting Below the Heavens 2 and got C.R.A.C. Knuckles instead.

TO my mans Blu.

I thought Blu left because the original people he
worked with at Warner not only lost their jobs but the staff
he was interacting with afterwards didn't see his vision or understand
where he was headed with his project ?
I'm pretty sure he didn't get dropped because he gave out NoYork! for free.

Blu is one of my favorite rappers and Below the Heavens has to be one of the top 10 albums i've heard the past 6-7 years, but I couldnt get jiggy with this electric shyt. I know hes an artist and all that, just felt forced and too contrived.

This was my shyt though

i liked it right off the bat because i understood the LA Beat scene movement that it was steeped in. It's basically Blu doing Brainfeeder.

wtf is ex military? and that Shabazz Palaces was wack.

Death Grips' first mixtape. And Black Up was a creative, eclectic showcase on how to age properly in Hip-Hop. Took from rooted musical traditions (lots of Free Jazz and Soul influence) while still being forward thinking and LOUD as hell.

But it is also really dense stuff, so I can understand people not liking it. But that doesn't mean it was wack at all.
