But, I was told by many of you that Kobe taking 23 shots a game wasn't hurting his team.
Class in session.
YOU'RE WRONG
kobe took 23 shots because he was the only guy making them. he was the only guy with a decent fg% on the team that was willing to take the shots, make the shots and when fouled, make the ft's.
dwight gets the ball, gets stripped 4 to 5 times per. dwight gets hacked, bricks 2 fts or 1 of 2. no thanks, those are more TO's.
gasol playing passive and crying about low post touches, as if dwight isnt down there or something.
nash just back from injury still trying to figure out his teammates, is not aggressively attempting to score at all. so the defense knows he's looking to pass and only pass. so they play him for the pass. STEAL, TO waiting to happen.
what changed?
everyone changed, including the coach. you just saw a complete 180 from the coach, to the players, including kobe.
dwight came to the lakers and said he wanted more low post touches. the guy was delusional. he doesnt have the foot work to be a great low post player. and thats even a healthy pre bad back dwight. he's great on the move, pick n rolls, moving off the ball, strong side to weak, etc. did you not notice how weak the dwight screens have been this season? why? because he no longer wanted to be known as a pick n roll big(only). yes he was trying not to really set the screen so the lob wouldnt be thrown. so the guys would have to hit in the post instead. did it work? NO.
dwight reset the season a few days ago and apologized for complaining about touches. dont count FG attempts. because that only counts when you're not fouled, dont turn the ball over. if you count all of that, and even count the times you've seen dwight pass out of the post to another player(whether or not that player shoots is irrelevant). all that adds up to touches. dwight averages 15+ post touches per game. once that was exposed. he apologized about tearing up over a lack of touches by using FG attempt stats.
dwight is now setting solid screens again. he changed on his own.
gasol got benched after his last injury(concussion). but that meant he can now be a center. what he's best at. and school backups or tired starters. kill guys basically. gasol stopped crying and sucked it up. look at him now? he hasnt played this well in a LONGGG time. he made that decision. he sacrificed.
Nash being so passive due to missing so much time. he has to get to know where his guys want the ball. instead we have taken so many L's. we cant wait on him to figure guys out. we need him aggressive TODAY. that means nash gets to play like he did at santa clara. more of a scoring pg. shoot first, pass 2nd. instead of pass first shoot 2nd. nash made this decision with kobe and mike d'antoni.
and finally kobe decided. since everyone is willing to change. i'm willing to change. cause at the end of the day i sacrificed my career early on to win with shaq. who was the lakers leading assist man when shaq was here? KOBE. was kobe the point guard? NOPE. did kobe have the luxury of a pippen like mike did? Nope.
kobe knows sacrifice.
