You can take it two ways, from a fan perspective or from a business perspective. From a fan perspective, DC takes a L because Marvel pulled their coat and DC blinked. But when you put it from a BUSINESS perspective, the reason why DC moved is because of money. It'll be dope having a head to head confrontation with Marvel, but it would be FINANCIALLY stupid to do by both sides. The winner isn't going to make as much as it would being a standalone release. And the loser would still be the winner because it would of made more than they would have if they were a standalone release, due to the buzz.

It'll be a YEEZUS vs BORN SINNER situation all over again. Yeezus may had won the release battle, but Born Sinner still earned more than it could have if he was released separately.

End the end, both studios are thinking about how much MONEY they could capitalize. Going head to head is ass backwards and both the winner and loser would cop pleas on each other stating it wouldn't be this or that case if it wasn't all boosted by the spectacle hype.

If anything, DC saw how box office blockbuster WINTER SOLDIER was and how it purely DOMINATED the entire month of April UNCONTESTED, and they want precisely that with Dawn of Justice. It would of been unwise, financially, even IF they won, to debut in competition with Capt America 3 AND be lose in satuation of all the OTHER big summer films in May! Come to think of it, DC made a very SMART move on their part, because even if the movie SUCKED... it will MAKE A BANK OF MONEY worldwide without ANY film trying to challenge it.

True, it's in everyone's best interest to not overlap dates so they both make the most bank, but realize DC is the one that made that move to begin with. They pushed back the Supes vs Batman date to a date that Marvel already announced. Then Marvel announced the title for that date was Cap 3 and that they weren't going to move and now SVB has it's 3rd announced date.

So, ultimately, it's DC's loss both fan & business because they've had to back off a head-to-head release they tried to initiate. The smarter business would have been to not try double up dates in the first place.

Exactly. WB tried to strong-arm Marvel and failed. It's entirely their own fault they're looking bad right now.

Just being a casual comic fan I always thought Captain America and Iron Man were upper tier characters in terms of popularity. Both of those characters were always in the Marvel video games, unless the game was X-Men specific. I never thought the Fantastic 4 were above either.

The video games aren't really a good yardstick for popularity, hell they had Shuma-Gorath in "Marvel vs Capcom" and he's definitely not well known.

Let's put it like this....if Marvel had the rights to X-Men there wouldn't be any Avengers movies....no Cap, no Ironman, none of that shyt. And they'd most likely be using Apocalypse instead of Thanos.

They had to go with The Avengers because they sold off their A tier characters.

i'm wondering the same thing, I mean Movie companies are stretching the summer movie season out to where it isn't even summer anymore. Have Major movies like Hunger games and Star Wars coming out in fall/winter now.
More garbage. This is who went toe to toe with supes and nearly stole the show:

As long as WW looks athletic enough that she looks like she could hang with batman and supes during the the shyt that will be going down, i'm good.

:beli: nice try lame she was in full body suit if i'm not mistaken, of course for s/l purposes but lets not pretend it wasnt a concious move to make sure her skinny ass was covered to the brim. If they are goin to have wonderman dressed like an astronaut too (out of some misplaced notion the amazon look is dated but we know the real reason is they covering her malnourished ass) whats is the point?

Clearly the X-Men and Spider-Man are at the top but in my eyes Iron Man and Captain America weren't low enough on the totem pole where a movie staring them would even make me think twice about it. They deserved a movie over anyone on the DC side not named Superman or Batman. And both ranked above Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Blade, and The Punisher.

They even had an Avengers beat em up game with Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision. Matter of fact that's how I found out who the hell Hawkeye Vision was. So they definitely weren't on a Shuma Gorath level.

Also keep in mind, 99.9% of the people here were born well after the Avengers became a team. So using lagging sales back in 1950 isn't really a good metric to use when discussing the popularity of these characters. For us there has always been an Avengers. You making it seem like they Booster Gold or something.

I said B tier, not Z tier. They're behind the most popular characters.

And you're missing my point. I'm saying video games aren't a good yardstick for measuring popularity because the core market for video games back then was teens....who also buy comics. So beyond the core market (comic heads and video game heads) most people wouldn't know who The Avengers were, or who was in the team. Not enough to make a movie about them. This board is an off shoot of a sub-forum about video games, comics, etc. Of course you think they were always popular, we were the target market from day 1.

And as far as this:

Clearly the X-Men and Spider-Man are at the top but in my eyes Iron Man and Captain America weren't low enough on the totem pole where a movie staring them would even make me think twice about it.

They were low enough on the totem pole that Marvel wouldn't go with them as their first choice. They were low enough on the totem pole that people asked for the cinematic rights to Fantastic Four and Daredevil over them. Marvel had to use The Avengers, because that's what they were left with. That's all I'm saying.
