Embiid's ball dominance was already detrimental to a guy like Harden, who was the most willing and best passer that Joel could've ever wished for. If you put Giannis and Embiid together, you end up maximizing neither player's talents.

Maxey is a great fit next to Embiid. The mistake the Sixers made last season was making Embiid the primary scorer. They needed a scoring point guard (Maxey is a shooting guard) to be the first option with Embiid locking in on the defensive end and being a dominant second option.

But because Harden isn't in his prime athletically anymore they thought it was better to make Joel the first option. Whoever ends up playing in Harden's spot needs to be the first option (Harden/Lillard/Trae/Mitchell, someone like that).
