Socialism has nothing to do with haircuts. Also, labeling North Korea Socialist is like calling Nazi ("National Socialist") Germany Socialist- it's too shallow to accurately describe the situation.

How would a sociologist describe them?

so everyone looking the same has no bearing on a socioeconomic system in which the government owns the means of production and, in theory, distributes the gdp completely equally?

and you're Nazi example doesn't hold water. Fascism is a ultra-conservative political system. Calling it "National Socialism" was just propaganda to appeal to as many Germans as possible....at a time when the communist party was vying for control of Germany. You could have used Soviet Russia as your example, but that might not have supported your argument very well either. China? naaa.... maybe North Vietnam? no, you probably shouldn't bring that example up either.

As a hybrid state, which is the case with most of these kinds of countries I think. Authoritarian, single-party military dictatorship with fascist and socialist elements. Borderline monarchy, if you wanted to just call it straight. Calling it Socialist would be like calling the US a democracy, as opposed to a federal constitutional republic- all political leanings aside, it doesnt really get at much, and at worst, is actually misleading or wrong.

North Korea is fascinating. I really feel sorry for those people. Living your whole life pretending to like a leader whom many, I suspect, despise.

Unfortunately they don't have any spoils for invading countries to take, so we'll respect their sovereignty.

the funny thing is a good chunk of the people sincerely love the leader..have you read 1984? the government makes the people live in such fear and brain wash that loving your leader and fearing your leader is practically the same thing
