'single mother' doesn't necessarily mean the father(s) isn't involved. it just means she isn't married.
i'm thinking he might be around because the article said she quit her job to support her kids. who was supporting her during that time? i imagine NC is pretty stingy with welfare benefits so i can't see her supporting 4 kids that way. perhaps she had help from her family, though.
