North Carolina Manhunt: Search enters day two for convicted murderer Ramone Alston

Ramone Alston, a convicted murderer is on the loose in North Carolina as the search enters day two, according to officials with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said Alston escaped from a Department of Adult Correction vehicle around 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Alston escaped from a transport vehicle he was in that arrived at a UNC Hillsborough hospital.

Officials are conducting a massive ground search for him in a 1-2 mile radius around the hospital.
Officers from several agencies are checking out buildings, ravines, unlocked vehicles and any area that might provide an area of concealment for Alston.

Emergency Services Director Kirby Saunders said, “While the number one objective is to locate where Alston is, it is also imperative that we determine where he is not. Efforts will continue until Alston is in custody.”
People in the area are urged to keep doors, vehicles and windows locked. Call 911 if you see any suspicious activity.
Alston, 30, is serving a life sentence in Bertie Correctional for the Christmas Day murder of Maleah Williams in 2015.
Officials said Alston was last seen wearing a Department of Corrections-issued gray T-shirt, brown pants, and New Balance tennis shoes when he ran from the van. He was also last seen with his hands still cuffed in front of him.
Officials said Tuesday evening that the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is offering a $35,000 reward for information leading to Alston’s capture.
