Ryder's situation, in my opinion, while common in wrestling was always "weird." He was arguably the first wrester to get over via social media, given a flash in the pan push, and was relegated to fodder once said flash quickly flamed out (or was usurped from him; it's funny how "we" constantly blur the line between talent not making the most of opportunities, and/or being fukked over altogether by the higher-ups.).

He was 110% fukked over by WWE management because he got over on his own. Only took them a few weeks for them to destroy any momentum of getting over on his own and to add insult to injury, made him give WWE the rights to the Youtube show he started on his own.

:whoo:I know, bruh. Of course we have to move on as wrestling fans, but seeing the borderline disdain some of these nikkas had for Ryder in the years since his peak was wild.lolol. But if Vince had Dusty pop-locking and doing the cupid shuffle in a polka-dotted onesie, then it's no surprise that Ryder stood nary a chance.

"nikkas get de-pushed everyday, b. :rudy:"-- TSC bruhs.

That might be the only profitable choice homie has to capitalize on at the moment. He's not some young up-and-comer who we all believe should "go over to Japan, hone his craft, and then return stateside to a major contract offer." He was an under dog, who once he eventually got dogged, became an afterthought for most (assuming he already wasn't.).

Semi-related side note:

I forgot which podcast it was specifically, I wanna say the Nerdist’s, but Mick Foley years ago had mentioned in one about how Ryder never spoke up for himself backstage and how Mick told him he should’ve asserted himself and fought for his spot because he had an argument to make considering how hot his merch was selling and how over he was. I’m assuming Ryder’s story backstage was that he got himself over when there was no plan for that, and when Vince, HHH or someone else didn’t get it, instead of Ryder fighting for his spot he basically fell back and let them put him in those dumbass storylines in 2012 that killed his heat.

As shytty and assbackwards that whole run they put him on in 2012 was and as stupid as it is to cool off someone who was that over, admittedly if dude wasn’t willing to stand up for himself in a cutthroat industry and business like WWE then his ceiling was only so high. At a point I was a fan of his too, but thems the breaks :manny:

Edit: I could only find a Reddit comment mentioning it but here it is for context:

It shouldnt be up to Zack Ryder to tell Vince McMahon how to make money or where its coming from. He's the boss. That judgement falls on the people in charge of that. Fighting for your spot makes sense if youre in a crowded area but he really couldnt be denied. I hate that Vince has gaslighted an entire generation into thinking that its up to them to grab this brass ring when its not available to everyone.

His YouTube show was gold, but of course once WWE got their hands on it, it became trash.

I’m not saying I agree with it but if that’s how they operate and you’ve got someone like Mick Foley telling you to stick up for yourself then you stick up for yourself

I completely hear you, bruh. That shyt is still wild to me honestly. While I wanna agree with Foley, I'm high- key tired of this "where's your heart/hunger?" drivel (in relation to the higher ups). One could argue that him gettin over on his own was his version of seizing the brass ring.

Yep. I understand Foley's sentiments, but I'd imagine that you have to give somebody the respect they've earned. I understand it's a business, but I think that's a lazy excuse to perpetuate fukkery through outdated modes of thinking.

Lots of weird takes in here. There was a point where Zack Ryder was in the top 3 most over people in WWE. The swerve is dope because it has the world coming for Nick Gage thus making him (and GCW) higher profile. It also gives the anything can happene effect that most companies dont get.
Agreed.

ONE segment, and people are absolutely sold on seeing this deathmatch take place, and it's by a promotion that does them very well and has an incredible internet presence.
