If Winston doesn't declare, then you might as well pencil in Geno as the starter for the next 2 years.

Which is good if you like Geno. But if you don't, then :patrice:

Geno's definitely gonna be back, unless they swing a trade for someone it's probably gonna be a guy like Jake Locker/Brian Hoyer/Christian Ponder fighting with him for the starting job :scust:
Ponder though? :deadrose:
I'd rather any one of those rookies over him.

The thing is that there are still plenty of fans that are waiting for us to finally get a franchise QB (and they don't think Geno is the guy).

I don't hate Geno and I think he can be good eventually. But I'm not sold on him as a franchise guy, and I wouldn't skip over potential franchise QBs for Geno.

If Winston goes back to college, that means there will be at least 3-4 potential franchise QBs available next year. And we'll miss out on all of them

We're going to miss out on them, because we won't be as bad.

The only reason we were in a position to even entertain grabbing Winston or Mariota this draft is because of the poor season we had. But this season was a mulligan. Despite us talking about how bad this team was, it wasn't even as bad compared to the other teams. The other teams were legit bad/terrible teams. We weren't Top 5 bad like those teams (bet you we would have beat all of them had we played them). The only reason we were as bad as were was because A) Our GM treated this season like a throwaway one and didn't do anything to really improve the team B) Our schedule was alot tougher. If we had the schedule that the teams in the Top 5 had (except for the Raiders) we would have had more than 4 wins.

This will not be the case next season. I guarantee you that the Jets will improve and add pieces to dramatically improve. Plus we're going to have a lighter schedule. Geno is going to have talent around him. Even if he fukks up (and I'm sure he'll have his fukk up moments) it probably won't be enough to single handily ruin the season. Geno's the type of QB that plays well against bad teams/defenses. The question is will he be able to elevate his game against the better teams. Even if he doesn't, he'll do enough and the team around him will do enough counter that. I can see us having a bounce back season next year. At worst we'll end up mediocre with like 7-8 wins, but that will probably still have us picking in the teens in the years draft. Causing us to miss out on all the QBs.

So if Winston doesn't declare, better hope Geno really steps up his game and shows us he can be the guy. Because if not, we'll be stuck in mediocrity land like the Cincinnati Bengals

its so hard to even make that kind of assumption with no real positive hope at the quarteback position... geno played horribly this year... he isnt fit to be a started in this league... and unless the offensive line gets an upgrade another bottom 10 quarterback upgrade still would have relatively no chance at success...

Can't even argue with that. Either we go through what you describe, or end up mortgaging the future on whoever the must have qb at the time is.

The breadth of your post is vitiated by oversights. Your assertion that Geno only performs against the league's poor defences doesn't coincide with the outstanding evidence. Geno's good and great performances this season haven't come from singularly weak or inferior defences. His better and worse performances have come in sporadic fashion against both lower and higher ranked fences. Although Geno did have a strong early season showing against the Oakland, he also performed well against defences like New England, Miami and Minnesota, whose combined defenses are better than average. This fact supports the notion that Geno could notably improve next year given more time and weapons, which is what will happen anyway as most every QB improves from year 1 to year 3. If Geno becomes a decent starter, we have a shot at the playoffs. If he doesn't, we likely have a top 10 pick. Alternatively, when you talk about mediocrity land, I don't get it. The team will exist in the future regardless and chances to get a franchise QB are virtually endless in upcoming years. We shouldn't prematurely give up on players on account of "time", especially if said player might be on the cusp of something great. Impatience and rash decisions are not good virtues in sports because player have different development cycles. Time and consequences thereof are something the guys who might get fired should worry about--the GM, coaches, and the like--not owners or fans. So far as development and progress goes, Geno should play out the remainder of his tenure as the success of his performances admit.

His last set of performances were the first time I saw Geno put air under his throws. My issue with Geno this season wasn't so much his decision making. On film, he's making most of the right reads. It's his sporadic accuracy and inability to put touch on his throws....the latter he's adjusted to.
Curious to see his development next season
