A good chunk of it was lazy, copycat wave riding. Some of it was intentional minimalist production to let the artists with real skill differentiate themselves from the rest. Sigel, Busta, Luda, Fab, Jay...you knew what they brought to the table when they make what seemed like a throwaway beat work. Especially when they shape them into anything drunk/high people could clap along to in the club or in the ride.


And I gotta say...that Booty track just shows Benzino was cheeks from the start, and considering recent revelations the name ain't improved any :mjlol:

Only squad who's music stood the test of time from that era was rawkus. Hi-tek especially was dropping classics left and right. Most of the shyt from rawkus sounds like it was released yesterday. They breathed new life into the game at that time.
