Eric's out there truly thinking he had stuck a fork in Vince....a year later WCW is already playing catch up, two years later he's been replaced by Russo, three years later WCW is on their death bed, five years later he's working for Vince

Life comes at you fast

I'm still amazed at how WCW dropped the ball with Bret :francis: then again this the same company that dropped the ball on Sting vs Hogan at Starrcade after tons of build up

Was Ted Turner completely hands off? Or did the AOL-Time Warner merger basically meant he had no input or say on how WCW was operating?

It was both really.

Turner had no involvement at all really in the running of the company. But the merger meant he couldn't stop the execs from pulling the plug. He had no power within Warner by the end.

From what i've read, if he did have a say he would've fought for WCW to be kept alive just because of how important wrestling had been to his network since the beginning.

they didnt drop the ball on Bret. he was consistently pushed hard.

Bret failed to make an impact in the big leagues.

Yea this.....

Bret was pushed.... but folks just didn’t latch on to him.

I guess it just didn’t feel right.

Like the other people that came from WWF back then to WCW kinda changed their characters and became “cool”

Bret just kinda stayed Bret and didn’t really evolve

plus he couldnt lay claim to being the best worker in WCW either. nowhere near.

i also think people dont want to admit that the WWF talent pool was a small pond. it ruins their childhood nostalgia.

Mattel’s next entry in the Elite 2 Pack figure set is Bret’s most notable segment he did while there. Pack also includes “first time in the line” the REAL WCW US Title belt accessory (Bret/Goldberg 2 Pack)

he was WCW champion as well.

and being U.S. champion wasnt far from being WCW champion. it usually wasnt some midcard chit. it was mostly main eventers holding the belt.

dont get that chit confused with the intercontinental title or whatever else.

like i always say, people who think WCW dropped the ball on bret hart, are 10 times out of 10, people who didnt watch WCW like that, if at all.

WCW was where the big boys play.

bret simply got swallowed up by the roster and couldnt stand out.
