Exactly. The level of comfortability Nip and his boys had to be out there with no tools, was an indicator of the direction Nipsey had been going for the last decade or more.

Nip and his boys weren't thinking about needing to be tooled up in front of his business in a hood in which everyone loved Nip. Most of the rival sets have paid their own tribute. That indicates there was no bad blood between Nip and other sets. So I can somewhat understand the headspace Nip and his boys were in. Folks keep bringing up "well, ya know, Nip was a gang member at the end of the day", but he was a gang member for nearly 20yrs, since he was 13. The suddenness of him being murdered in old age(33 is old for gang members) after doing so much positive and after bridging gaps between rivals, is what's lost on Ppl who feel as though we shouldn't be surprised by his death just because of his ties to the 60's. Had he got clapped way back when Hussle in the House dropped or before that, it wouldn't be as shocking and jolting(As bad as that sounds). Add to the fact he was murdered by a fellow 60 no less. Sad to say. This is all bad. All sad.

and people having the worst takes “maybe Nipsey shouldn’t have pushed that card”, easy shyt to get here and type in hindsight, but as a business owner Nip reserved the right to tell someone they’re not welcomed at his place of business, especially if said person could potentially have a negative impact on his brand, cause same nikkas here typing that shyt would be the same nikkas typing shyt like “Nip fukks with rats, my dusty homeboy that’s plugged in said he be having snitch nikkas all in his store dancing in the video” or “Nip not solid. The set don’t even fukk with him no more cause he be letting rats wear his shyt. LA nikkas know”

I’m just mad we lost one of the few rap nikkas that was solid and a beacon and conductor of positive change for us as people. Worst part is Nip feels like the last of his kind, how many nikkas you see coming in the rap game with a Malcolm X chain piece and incorporating those ideals in their music? Making lyrical motivational and relatable music without approaching you from a preachy and condescending angle? Not being an owned pawn and showing and leading entrepreneurship by example? Creating opportunity for young black people? Fighting gentrification? Not subscribing to weirdo artsy tropes? Rap nikkas either junkies, c00ns, have no substance, social media addicts, or think life amounts to being in the strip club with non black women. In the midst of the rise of thot rap and nonsense rap, Nip stood solid.
