This is fukkd up...you could tell he was an incredibly intelligent person. Someone who growing up in a different environment would probably be a politician, a local civic leader, the guy who signs your paycheck or represents you in court. But that is life. I'm in Chicago and within the last 10 years we've probably lost 4000-5000 black men to homicide. And yes some of them were sociopaths etc - but many were probably just like Nipsey but unfortunately born in the wrong circumstances. We, and I count myself in this group, are very quick to criticize our fellow black folks for not investing/reinvesting in the hood when they were able to make it out. Now, we may never find out the true motivation behind the homicide, but if it really was just someone hating, can we truly blame those who decide never to go back into the community from which they emerged? That's a very difficult question to think about, especially if/when it's someone else's life that's weighing in the balance. Think about the psychological effects it has on a kids in a community to say that if you're lucky enough to be successful that you should avoid where you grew up (and by extension the people who are still there) at all costs. What does that say to a kid looking to make sense of the world?
