Unless they are willing to upgrade their game capacity to 1080p+ then theres no point

Lotta folks (myself included) are crying for a wider selection of games, a newer console would just be redundant cause then you would have to promo a line of games to go with it. Games like Trek to Yomi would be a decent start for nintendo to branch out into wider selection of games that are bordering "next-gen" but they not even trying to get with developers like that.

Probably an iterative upgrade. Switch is wildly popular. Wouldn't be smart to abandon it for something new.
The hardware is showing its age heavily though.

And Nintendo realizes that it needs to get to at least a Ps4 Pro-ish ballpark in terms of tech or the 3rd party games won't be there, as the Switch is too far back from the ps5/xsx.

They get something out in that ballpark and have bc with Switch, they can get ports of the bigger Japanese games and use their own studios to get the ball rolling.

Switch part two kicks off, the world goes crazy and the games are beautiful with 60 fps ticked in.
