Hopefully this either forces a pay model at the college level, lets kids go to the NBA early, G league raises those salaries or kids start forsaking the NCAA to build their own brands i.e. BBB. It would suck if all that came out of this is Black coaches being arrested and Black players being ruled ineligible.

This whole thing is so fukking stupid and a waste of time :francis:
it could possibly achieve key goals

1. as @potier just stated, it may force a pay model/or the removal of the one-year rule
2. allows players to get their fair value at the proper time. alot of these cats from poor economic backgrounds end up getting low-ball deals in the future just cause they couldnt pass on the up-front money in college. its kinda screwed that just because a kid is given 25k to play at a certain school he also has to wear a certain brand on pre-determined contract and have to be represented by pre-determined agency. What if a 4-star comes in and dominates and wants a better agency/sneaker deal. might not be able to happen based on the initial money given up front.
3. might cause a reform in the player/representation time frame, where athletes can benefit off their name in college

so there are some benefits, maybe they come to fruition maybe not....but legal action was gonna happen anyways, especially when it comes to federal institutions, fraud, money laundering, etc...those things dont go together. It wouldnt be as big of a deal if random agents were just throwing cash, but you get corporations and federal institutions involved it becomes corruption

Agreed. I don't think the NCAA is ever going to pay their players though. There's just too many kids wanting to play and get some exposure. The G-League is getting there with two-way and exhibit 10 contracts, but if you're on a standard G-League contract, you're basically playing for minimum wage. :scust:

I honestly hope BBB succeeds. I understand what LaVar's doing, but he's gotta lower those prices. That Jelly Fam/Nike story infuriated me. I hope those kids mobilize and really get the backing to create their own company.

Didn't the NBA already make it so they can go to the G league straight from HS?

Anyways the NBA needs to get a hold of the talent as quickly as possible so they don't get contaminated with the awful college coaching

The G League needs to see massive improvement for that to happen. I mean if I was a 5x athlete I'd reather be the big man on campus for a year then play in the G-League. I'd rather play with other 5-star cats and under elite coaches, then what the G-League offers. Plus exposure.

NBA is gearing that way, 18 years old is old enough to get into the G league, all but 2 teams have a G-league affiliate.
The issue will be payment and the possible imposition of a draft for young guys that want to enter right out of college,
I think paying them and them going to whoever has the most money is good, but the league and owners will be against that for "parity" reasons as well as the white fanbase.

I'm starting to agree. The more I look at the case I don't think it's going to turn college basketball on its head. AAU will definitely change, and runners and the like will be looking for new jobs, but the charges aren't carrying enough time for the basketball guys involved to bring down the entire house. Pitino getting axed is going to have dudes shaking in their boots though. Besides that this is Miami, Myron Piggie, etc all over again

One could only hope. But this train of thought is too revolutionary. Nothing exigent will come of this. Just some kids getting in trouble for doing what damn near any other kid would do.
