The black power movement of the late 60’s gave rise to broader Black Americans wanting a deeper connection with Africa which gave rise to holidays like Kwanzaa.

Just because you saw the broader black urban poor jump on the Africa train due to the debut of Black Panther doesn’t mean Black Americans in some form or fashion haven’t had history of trying to embrace Africa.
