So... I'm the only one who likes this? :ld:

I love the sport.. and other than making them play 18 games which I am not down with.. this is the best idea... It ain't like we don't want to see RGIII and the Bengals make it

Of course the ATL
Pretty soon we'll see double elimination games in the NFL playoffs & a best of 3, 5 or 7 game playoff series. Goodell's shameless with it brehs :wow:

The NFL is the only major sports league in America that doesn't need to tinker with their playoff format. Twelve out of 32 teams making the tournament yearly is the perfect amount, and the playoff bye weeks are EARNED by the teams that finished with the best records overall. Trading the exclusivity of the NFL's playoff format for more money is against the "integrity" of the league, but I'm sure this will end up becoming reality in the next 5 years. Fortunately it doesn't look like you can make this reality and have an 18 game regular season, especially if you're pushing "player safety" as hard as Goodell is.

The NHL also has a great playoff format but they aren't in session so no positive talk about them. :childplease:

Im sorry, I like this idea too much, but things can be improved upon. Personally I would like it expanded to 18 team playoff( top 9 teams from each conference):
- The 2 top teams conference are still given a bye week( with the #1 team in each conference given a 2 bye weeks)
-It allows allows for any given sunday( which is the best aspect of American football).

To me, it would ultimately determine who is the number 1 team in the NFL.

Couldn't someone argue that having half the league playing in the 1st round of the playoffs with no bye a "player safety issue"? :skip:

Bye weeks are great for the league....it adds to the excitement of the late season playoff push.

No other league has a greater incentive to rest players for "meaningless" games...once teams clinch, you'll see more Popovich type moves, where coaches will hold players out games choosing health over jockeying for playoff positioning.

I hate this idea.
