NFL playoffs could expand

At the conclusion of the league’s quarterly ownership meeting in Dallas, Commissioner Roger Goodell dusted off a concept that rears its head from time to time.

Expanded playoffs.

Goodell said that the owners “teed up” the issue of expanding the playoffs from 12 to 14 or 16 teams, and that the discussions will continue in the coming months.

The use of 16 playoff teams would eliminate the bye weeks, requiring the top two seeds in each conference to play in the wild-card round, which would become a quarterfinal round in the AFC and NFC.

Why wouldn't they? They've already shown that they value money (and to a lesser extent perception) over everything else. Fans of the NFL have shown that the league can do whatever and we'll keep watching.

I get why they would like to improve. But improve doesn't always mean better. There's nothing broke with the NFL playoff system now. Why try to fix it? (Now that I look at it, I already answered it initially).

I get the feeling that the smarter/founding owners (Rooney and Mara are the only ones I can think of off top) are losing the clout they had and these ideas are the brainchild of the rich idiots (Jerry and Snyder)

If they do this eventually the first half NFL regular season will become the same as the first half of the NBA/NHL/the entire MLB season and EVERY bowl game in December for me. Fans will get tired of the money grubbing on top of the micro management of everything.
