Over the last few days you may have seen hashtags about Bolivia while scrolling through social media. The U.S. Government doesn't want the American public to know much about the events currently unfolding in Bolivia due to the fact that they are pulling the strings of regime change behind the scenes.
Since the election of the leftist Indigenous President of Bolivia, Evo Morales in 2009, a new constitution was adopted which granted rights to women, workers, peasants, students, and the indigenous of the country who make up a resounding 88% of the population.
Under previous U.S. backed neoliberal governments Bolivia was one of the poorest countries in South America but since the election of Evo Morales Bolivia has become the fastest growing economy in South America. Under the Morales Government, Bolivia nationalized their countries resources such as lithium and natural gas and made access to water a human right. Doing so made capitalist countries like the U.S. look carry out regime change due to the fact that it closed off unfettered access to Bolivia's resources for giant multinational corporations.
A mining industry website notes Bolivia is part of the "lithium triangle," where 75% of world's lithium comes from. Lithium is needed for electronics, batteries, and many other commonly used items in the 21st century. The global demand for lithium is expected to triple in the next 15 years as technology advances.
Due to the fact that Morales nationalized Bolivia's resources, the profits gained from their resources were able to be spent on improving the lives of the people of Bolivia, rather than on enriching huge corporations. Using the profits from their resources the Morales Government built twelve new lithium factories, three new cement factories, 28 textile factories, and 12,694 cooperatives. The Morales Government also built 134 new Hospitals, 25,000km of roads, 7,191 recreation centers, and 100,000 new schools.
Unfortunately, all of these improvements have been put at risk of being washed away by a Military Coup backed by the U.S. and right wing groups within Bolivia. Before the start of this years elections in Bolivia the ‘civil society’ group the Organization of American States (OAS) demanded that Bolivia let their elections be observed for “fairness”, knowing he did nothing wring Morales let OAS in to observe the elections. Upon Morales winning the Presidency yet again by a 10% margin, the OAS declared the elections illegitimate. The military and law enforcement of Bolivia have since called for President Morales to resign, threatening the lives of him and his supporters. Evo Morales is now seeking asylum in Mexico.
Reporting from The Greyzone indicates, "At least six of the key coup plotters are alumni of the infamous School of the Americas, while Kaliman and another figure served in the past as Bolivia's military and police attachés in Washington." This is proof that U.S. organizations have been involved in meddling in the political process of Bolivia in the name of opening up markets for corporate interests for quite some time.
