Next generation do you think manufacturers will go back to making their own GPUs?

Nvidia has blown up in value. They're now worth more than Amazon. The prices of their consumer graphics cards have been ridiculous.

Question is, will Sony, Nintendo and Ms go with Nvidia, a cheaper alternative(AMD) or will they go back to the old way of doing things and just make their own cards in house. Would it jack up the price of the console if they did that more or less than if they just paid whatever price Nvidia or amd is asking?

Gaming is becoming too expensive of a hobby for the majority of people. The amount of value you're getting from a 60 dollar game is not the same and the cost of the machines has gone up. It used to be that you paid 350 and got a ps2 with a controller and a cheap "greatest hits" game to go with it.

Microsoft and Sony will continue to use AMD, unless NVIDIA can prove they can make the best performance at AMD's price

Gaming is definitely cheaper today than it was in the past.

As for a console maker developing their own chips, that ain’t gone happen either. Would be some expensive dumb shyt with no real benefit to anyone involved.

consoles will probably stick with AMD. but the rumored PS5 Pro specs are interesting, because it seems they're leveraging their own AI tech to do something similar to Nvidia's AI upscaling (DLSS)

I’m sure we’ll see some arm based SoC designs and better form factors. Doubt we’ll see them investing in their own chips

in the next decade or two nvidia will see heavy competition, because no one who wants to take advantage of AI innovations want to be beholden to them a sole supplier. they have backlogs of orders now. a stupid amount of money is being invested into the chip industry now and owning your chips allows you to lower cost and possibly innovate even faster. the gaming industry could benefit from open source gpu development.

Console makers will keep making consoles as close to PC as possible , since it makes it easier for game development and porting to PC.

Intel makes mid level GPU's now and they have better AI upscaling than AMD. I could see them making a push into attracting consoles.
