I dont know how anyone could look at the criminality and ignorance of our Congress and want to give them more oversight with regards to our currency.

From what I've seen, most of the folks advocating for a gold standard and the abolishment of the Fed are grifters and con-men; Glen Beck, Ron Paul, etc.

Is there another solution? In our system, if something isn't being controlled by the private sector, it's being controlled by the government.

All that has to be done is to legalize competing currencies. Take the sales taxes off of gold, silver, rhodium, platinum or any other commodity that a state wants to allow. Let those currencies have the ability to compete directly with the federal reserve note and see what the market chooses.

I think a law should be created where the federal government is obligated to accept payment of taxes in whatever kind of currency a state has legally sanctioned. I also think the federal government needs to become drastically smaller.

No one had all the answers, but we need a lot more freedom of currency in this country. It would dramatically improve the lives of many, especially the poor

Sounds like you're advocating dissolving the Union. Having a national currency instead of allowing individual states to mint their own was one of the foundations that turned the 13 original colonies into United States.

That being said, I'm not really educated enough on the matter to propose a solution, but I agree that the current system is rigged and possibly broken.

let me clarify.

i think our banking system should be controlled strictly by government... but it has to be a responsible, moral government, not a government in bed with the same private interests it has the job of regulating. the corruption/greed in government/banking, combined with the rampant incompetence, is killing us slowly as a country.

i say this all the time... this "system" talk is pointless because of the criminal element running the country. until we get the criminal element out of government we will continue to operate moreso in private interests than in the public interest.
