:banderas: This shyt was so fukking intense and crazy! Yes, the trailers pretty much sum up what you're going to see but what it doesn't even begin to convey is how fukking masterful they string out the tension. It's such a simple premise, and most of the action occurs within the blind man's house. 3 robbers, 1 blind man. You'd think this would get boring or tired, but whoever wrote this script and directed this movie played it like a fiddle. For all of you who like to rip and cop bootlegs, I'm gonna say this. This has to be seen in a movie theatre. Preferably a theatre where they don't talk too much to the screen because this movie did not rely on scary music to cue you in. They used silence. It was terrific. The silence in the theatre during the "don't breathe" sequences is palpable and plays louder than any soundtrack. It was like the audience was holding their breath. You could have heard a pin drop in my theatre, and the movie didn't just do it once or twice for a few seconds. They stretched it out, so it felt like it went on for minutes and they did it several times. The actors should get some props too because that had to be difficult. I loved this movie. There were like 2 jump scares, the rest is pure tension, surprising turn of events, and absolute fukkery.

Especially the turkey baster bit. :scusthov::deadrose: That was super gross, especially where it actually ended up. :heh:

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending though, I was kinda rooting for the old blind guy, even when they revealed he was super creepy and gross. I wonder if they're angling for a sequel by keeping him alive. That was weird. He should have either died or killed her. And I never really came around to liking the so-called protagonist, if you want to call her that. The closest to a protagonist was really one of the guys, and he didn't make it, but he lasted a lot longer than I thought he would.

Anyway, I hope it starts a trend. Down with the jump scares and scary music priming us to be scared. More of this please!

Two thumbs up or a 9/10 for sure.

I liked it, I think the 'Money' kids acting and lines were borderline parody level bad, but I loved the setting, a grim, stripped down, ugly Detroit slum/suburb, post Recession, that looks and feels like a third world country, with it's occupants seeking exile, any way they can. I loved the tension, the chase scenes and the constant reversal, the old mans house was a great set, dark and dirty, simple but hopeless bars on windows and blocks on doors....I thought the old man wasn't quite humanized enough, and they could have improved several aspects of the story, and it would be horror in the league of 'It Follows', or 'Green Room', as it is, it's a grim little movie, just a mark or two beneath those movies. These are usually first time directors, and if this is a hit, they really get it right on the second feature.

Really great comment/observation. Although it didn't quite engender sympathy for the female lead for me as much as I think the movie was going for. The younger guy was much more relatable as a victim in this mess. But like you said, there was supposed to be a back and forth about who the real villain was in this scenario. I can understand why they didn't humanize the blind guy more. At least for me, he was already sympathetic from the start. The little twist didn't really turn me off to him, just made me pity him a bit more. As far as comparisons to "It Follows", this was better, IMO. I really liked "It Follows" but it didn't hold the tension like this one did for me, but it's a close thing.

Guess I'm going to be in the minority. I thought it was pretty good movie but that's it. In terms of horror, nothing scary in this film except for a part that caught me by surprise and it wasn't even the blind man (the dog).

Being a Detroiter, I had mixed feelings. Positive wise, you could see how certain neighborhoods in the D, could be a scary thing. Iron bars, being on block that's totally isolated from other people. It's sorta like being on farm with no other people around. Negative wise, all white cast in Detroit? Especially, with the part of town he's in, it's probably 1% white if any at all. So I don't get that direction with it being in Detroit but an all white cast.

Now, cinemotogapy was dope. Camera angles, lighting, all that. The best part of the film, was once you got to know the old man and got to see that he was a person of depth. Nota simplistic character at all. You saw in the commercial, where he states he's an atheist. And there are reasons why. So they wrote his character well.

I don't have a problem with suspending reality. It's a "horror" film so I get it. So I could deal somewhat with the "stupid white people doing dumb stuff" because that's just the norm in these films. But at the same time, some of the stupidity just got too much for me. But my main problem are
They showed him dragging her at the beginning of the film. I mean you know she's going to survive based on that, so that took away alot of suspense. You knew the other 2 were goners. Honestly, if that wouldn't have happened, I might not have known.

But that gets to my next issue. Super white woman. Why in most of these "horror" films it's the super white woman who survives? It's so predictable and cliche. She wasn't super white woman in kicking his butt. But you knew she would survive and be a "hero" (sorta)

I must have missed it but how in the world did the 2nd white dude live at first? Didn't he plunged that scissors thing in him. If he did, then how in the world did he get up from that? When no effect? Again, I probably missed it so please explain.
And yes, the semen part was beyond disgusting. Look like something that would be in Wayans Bros. comedy. He should have got her pregnant though. That would have left a lot of suspense. Or do like the Gift and make you wonder who the father was. Have sex with that simp dude early on. Then have blind guy knock her up and make you wonder who's child it was.
Overall, I liked the pacing. The revelation of the blind man. Video game chase vibe. But I just couldn't suspend belief all the way, so I can't put it in great category. Can't even say it's better then "10 Cloverfield Lane" as a chase film. Though I hated that ending and this one as well.

The blind dude didn't hear him hide under his dead friend.
