According to NateDrake (this guy from what i know is shinobi level trusted insider)

  • No longer sounds like a Switch Pro but a Switch 2/Switch 4k based on what was learned, it all depends on how the marketing presents the product
  • 4k will be achieved through DLSS
  • Big publishers/developers got the devkits late 2020 with smaller ones getting them this year
  • As of right now it is not naively BC with the Switch 1 due to it being different hardware and lacking TX1, but there are ways around it, depends on what Nintendo will do
  • Devs are working on exclusives, some PS/Xbox ports
  • Devs are targeting their games being "done" by late 2022, but a game being done doesn't necessarily mean thats when it releases for various reasons.
  • Hears it will release within Holiday 2022 - Early 2023 period, within those 6 months (supply constraints make it hard to know exactly when it is possible, meaning could miss holiday season)

Resetera is losing their shyt over this, never mind the fact that “insiders” have been wrong about 90% of their predictions over the last two years.
I fukk with NateDrake, but he’s also been wrong, and backtracked. He told us Metroid Prime Trilogy was finished and ready to drop, but now Metroid Prime is rumored to be getting a remaster and he’s like “The trilogy was canceled in favor of this remaster.”.:camby:

Yeah, but it not being backwards compatible would be par for the course for Nintendo

Hopefully there a software solution that allows for near-full compatibility

Same with the Emily Roger chick(?), she(?) swore up and down that Mother 3 was getting localized and never happened.

Remember Star Fox racing and all the same leakers jumped on the rumor and nothing happened?:stopitslime:

And even now they’ve been saying “ a Switch Pro is coming” since before the Switch even launched and now they’ve jumped to “It’s really the successor the whole time!” because of course Nintendo is making a follow up to the Switch, it’s the easiest thing to predict. As if Sony and Microsoft aren’t also already drawing PS6 and Xbox Series Next concepts on a napkin in their offices.

I don’t really think the OLED switch release disproves that a new switch or pro model will release next year though. IMO theres too much smoke coming from credible sources saying otherwise.

Whether its a switch pro or switch 2 is kind of irrelevant. Those are just marketing terms and nintendo decides if it’ll be considered sequel or an upgrade, just like the Wii U

How so? As far as I can remember Nintendo have been one of the best in terms of BC.

The year 3030
They gonna do what they did with the DS/3DS :mjlol:

this isn't that though.

the DSi and New 3DS were BC.

IF they go this route it deviates from their general cycle of releasing a slightly more powerful unit with a handful of exclusives, that also still played the other games

This would be new territory, especially if they tout it as a "pro" and not an entirely new console to start the new gen.
