You know what at the end of last year I was talking to my homies and we was talking about the state of NY hip hop in 2019 compared to 2009. And I came to the conclusion NY hip hop is in a better place today compared to 10 years ago. Pop Smoke got killed so early however there is so many up and coming NY rappers from all 5 boros. The NYC rap scene is still strong is back to relevance. We started this shyt and will always be relevant. I feel that Pop Smokes death will motivate the rest of the young bulls to go harder in the studio. NYC hop hop is in good hands. The future is bright. The NY rap scene has been absolutely decimated the last 10-15 years by death and incarceration.
It really makes no sense.
Absolutely. As someone who was in my 20's during the fall- 2005 onwardYou know what at the end of last year I was talking to my homies and we was talking about the state of NY hip hop in 2019 compared to 2009. shyt was dead in 2009. I'm just waiting for the day NY hip-hop gets its respect.
I was a freshman in high school in 2005 and I remember the shift happening. It was like 2003/2004 was the last good year for NYC hip hop. 2005 and beyond the south took over and nyc hip hop was in a terrible dark place. Dipset broke up, DMX was past his prime, 50 was beefing with everybody, Fat Joe moved to Miami, Murder Inc was dead, Jay-Z was the only one popping and then he “retired” after the Black album. Nas made Hip Hop is dead and it got mixed reviews. Yeah 2005-2015 were some dark times. These younger kids just know how to use the Internet. They don’t need a record label to blow up. If the song goes viral they good. Plus NYC rap scene is more unified than any previous generations. Kids support the music heavily. So in the end the future is bright. The younger millennials and generation z learned from the mistakes felt their elders. It’s great to see.As someone who was in my 20's during the fall- 2005 onward
Being a ny hip hop head was absolutely abysmal undertaking. Those years were truly the dark ages. Im talking, nikkas was relying on legacy artist to stay relevant. Times where, if cats like fat joe didnt drop than ny had nothing to say for that year. lol. It was bad man
This generation is leaps and bounds better than back than. I get on this gen alot but these young kids are actually supporting new artist. Something my mid-tier gen didnt do. We were happy to just import influence from the south and other regions. I give it to this gen, that atleast they want to see the city blow. My gen fumbled the ball on that
