5 days to match huh? So obviously Silver must think that TNT having the right to match is legit? :ohhh:
Yeah this confirms the reporting that WBD has matching rights.

And they would gladly match Amazon's package as its around $1.8 billion per year...

There was never a question of matching rights: they are standard in these contracts. The question is whether TNT would be able to match and what would the NBA have to legally accept as a match. They clearly cannot match NBC’s overall offering but the Max vs. Amazon question is interesting. And the question is would TNT want to have a streaming only deal with the NBA. I don’t think they would.

TNT has Max technically. And Max has already started showing live sports. They'd just show the games through that app.

The NBA has locked in its respective media rights deals with ESPN, NBCUniversal and Amazon, totaling $76B over 11 years, three sources confirmed with SBJ today. The boards of those three TV networks either have or will approve their respective agreements with the league by Monday, at which point the NBA’s BOG will vote to approve the overall deal at its Tuesday meeting in Las Vegas.

Next Wednesday, upon approval of the deal in Las Vegas, the league is then expected to submit the signed contracts to it incumbent media partner Warner Bros. Discovery, who will have five days to match -- which NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has called a "complex legal matter." WBD believes it can match any of their current game packages, such as weekly Thursday night games and conference final broadcasts. Under the proposed deals, multiple sources said Amazon Prime Video will broadcast games on Thursday nights following the conclusion of its Thursday Night Football regular season and also alternate conference finals each year with NBC. Turner could attempt to match those packages with the hope they can perhaps carve out a fourth deal with the NBA.

Sources said the deals with the three networks have been finalized for weeks, but there were "pencils down" as of Wednesday, with no more changes being made. ESPN’s A package, worth approximately, $2.6B annually, includes the NBA Finals every year, international digital rights, NBA conference finals, early round playoff games and WNBA broadcasts. NBC’s B package, worth $2.5B, includes a Sunday Night Basketball schedule following the NFL season, weekly Tuesday night games prior to the NFL season ending, alternating conference finals, early round playoff games and an undetermined amount of games on Peacock. The WNBA, sources said, is also in play for NBC.

Amazon’s C package, worth $1.8B, includes the alternating conference finals, a weekly broadcast on either Friday or Saturday nights, the Thursday night games following the NFL season, the Emirates In-Season Tournament and the WNBA. Sources liken their early round playoff package to the package currently done by NBA TV.

Sources said about 50% of the WNBA package will be spread between ESPN, Amazon and probably NBC, though the rest will be negotiated separately in the next month.

WNBA rights are gonna split between ESPN, NBC, and Amazon

TNT needs to match that Amazon package, it’s a slight step below what they have now but as a fan having TNT presentation and NBC presentation will be really nice

Where's the guy that told me they didn't have matching rights :mjlol: Obviously they did all along.. whether or not TNT is going to match is a different question.

Plus, WBD/ESPN/FOX all have that sports streaming service they are putting together. To be honest, If Zaslav doesn't try to match the Amazon deal he's a fukking idiot.

I know that’s why I said it’s interesting. The question is would TNT want to pay that NBA Inside salary for a strictly streaming service. The NBA being on broadcast cable is important to them as a value proposition. A streaming only deal would be unlike any of their other sports deals. Someone mentioned that new standalone sports streaming service and that’s a valid thought.
