Here’s my issue with the flick. The conception.
They overthought everything because they didn’t want to repeat the 95 flick. But the 95 flick knew less is more. And they did a remake of enter the dragon and it works.
So the first movie is all set up for a second movie and that’s the wrong way to go. This guy created the lovely exorcist show so I’m down. They need to let him retool this entire thing, throw Cole to the bushes and just focus it on liu kang. Lol you say you don’t want the main character to be a white guy meanwhile the franchise’s lead character is an Asian and you made him a benchwarmer.
Follow the material? No way
I did like Sub attacking the real world we've rarely seen that. That's was tough
Lui Kang needs to take center stage as the person we follow though and let everyone else play around him while setting up their own personal stories. Could easily have made MK a damn series of 6 or 7 episodes and give each season 2 main characters. Subzero and Scorpions clan feud could've gotten one leading to modern day. Let Raiden and Shang Tsung lurk in their series while introducing Quan Chi as the mastermind of the beef. Raiden, Lui, and Kung Lao could've gotten one to show their training and knowledge of the coming tournament. Jax and Sonya special forces vs Black Dragon fukkery with them leading to Raiden and Shang once again on the sidelines slowly recruiting.
Bruh as you could've easily just had the first film as you said right into Enter the Dragon MK classic tournament style. Kitana, Jade, Mileena, Nightwolf, Reptile, Outworld, Shao Khan all the heavy players like that could've been in
THEN mK 2 film could've easily set up Subzeros brother coming after Scorpion for Bi Hans death while showing signs of Quan chi preparing to bring him back as Noob. Shao Khan and Kotal fukkery in outworld. Hell introduce Erron Black, Rain and set up the return of Shinnok
