It was one of the rare rap albums during a period where sales were declining and people were doing gimmicks to survive. It was a B+ in a C- era.

It was BAD out there.

GKMC ain’t a classic IMO. Especially if you think TPAB is.
Tpab being a classic doesn't prevent his other albums from getting that status as well :dame: just because it's the highest rated album in his catalog doesn't mean it's his only reference album. Nobody in rap will ever get that kind of acclaim anyway, or that would make tpab the only classic album in rap music ever. Cuz that's the only rap album being ranked as the potential goat album in music, period.

But I agree that gkmc is far from being his best album. Matter of fact, it's not even in my top 3 Kendrick albums.

"Its the album out of his catalog that matched the critique with the streets and commercial success."

That definition fits DAMN better as it checks more boxes than Gkmc when it comes to matching critique with streets and commercial success.

=> Stronger critical acclaim than gkmc, stronger commercial success, more hits, more love from the streets.

(95/100 vs 91/100 - more sales and more accolades, pulitzer, bigger hits including the only 2x diamond single in rap music, and ranked 2nd biggest rap album of the century as far as charts, streams and sales).

You can't take the merits of one album and blindly attribute them to another record, simply because that's the one you personally bump the most.

GKMC is the epitome of what a classic album is. It’s the album out of his catalog that matched the critique with the streets and commercial success.
You quote critique because you can’t make the argument yourself. The streets were NOT on GKMC like that. It was pure industry push.

I don’t rely on critical acclaim.

Bro. I was OUTSIDE when that shyt dropped. It was pure online hype. It was ATL/Young Money on the streets. Idk why you’re lying. GKMC was pure west coast and industry rallying efforts. They PUSHED those records. That’s why I hate swimming pools so much. They tried to hammer the fact that Kendrick is anti alcohol and with that basic message and hypnotic beat to program you into accepting how brilliant the project supposedly was. It was pure marketing. It’s not even section 80 good IMO.
