New "How I Met Your Mother" Spinoff In the Works From "This is Us" Producers

Kids, two-and-a-half years later, I may finally get to meet your dad.

A new take on a How I Met Your Mother spinoff, told from a female point of view, is in development for next season at studio 20th Century Fox TV, our sister site Deadline reports. The news comes two-and-a-half years after CBS passed on the offshoot How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig.

This Is Us co-executive producers/writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are behind the latest stab at continuing the HIMYM franchise, which is titled How I Met Your Father. The ensemble will not feature any characters from the original series and, thus, the project may not necessarily land at CBS.

HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will serve as EPs on the potential comedy alongside Aptaker and Berger, but their day-to-day involvement remains TBD

I'm indifferent, but if it gets off the ground and said to be good, I'll check it out. All it's doing is basically ripping off the format. It's not like they'll be ruining the original show/characters since there's no connection other than the format, so it's not truly a spinoff. Weird that the new producers are pitching the same idea that even the OG producers couldn't get approved.

That said, HIMYM is one of the GOAT sitcoms with one of the WOAT final seasons.

How I Met Your Mother was such a failure. You just know that everybody behind the show were sure that they had the next Friends and that the characters and lines from the show would be etched into pop culture for ever but now that it's over it's not mentioned at all.

HIMYM from season 1 through 3 is an excellent sitcom.. it started falling off after that and by Season 6 became unwatchable.

I'll catch reruns of it if the episodes are from the first five seasons, but to this day I still havent watched the last 3 seasons

Agreed. The first 3 seasons were great. After that it became weak as hell. Probably couldve introduced the mom at season 4 and just focus on the rest of the characters
But i think this could work as long as they have a great cast.

how did it end anyways? i stopped watching after like 4 seasons. shyt got tedious.
