One of the folk heroes of the Mets' early season is ready to return. Mike Baxter, who distinguished (and injured) himself making a leaping catch against the left-field wall to preserve Johan Santana's no-hitter, will be activated prior to Monday's game against the Giants. The Mets plan to option outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Triple-A Buffalo to clear roster space.

If Scott Hariston is not moved before the deadline something is seriously wrong with this organization.

They are being offered nothing for Hairston and Sandy is trying to get top dollar for a substantial bench player. I say we wait the playoff teams out, at around 345pm they'll all start getting antsy.

Who says they're being offered nothing though? And outside the Wheeler deal what has Sandy done to make us think he is doing anything? This organization said they would be willing to eat salary to bring in relief help but suddenly everyone was too expensive. Last year they sat on valuable pieces that could brought back something (Reyes, Capuano, Brydak, or Izzy). Maybe Sandy is cooking something up but with the Wilpons as owners I have a feeling they want just enough to get to 80 wins so they can try and say they had a competitive team. But I'll reserve judgement till after the deadline before I go on my rant.

We ALL know damn well that the Wilpons were not going to let Sandy bring in relief help by eating salary. At the same time Sandy does not want to trade, as was proven, Murphy for a "relief pitcher".

He wants to get maximum or close to maximum value from his trade chips, and we need it (a la the Wheeler trade).

However, I will patiently wait for your rant :lolbron:

it's fukkin pathetic that we have no one to sell right now. How the fukk are they gonna improve this team? Everyone seems to just agree they'll be competitive next season... but 2 of the "young bats" basically the only fukkin young bats we have even close to helping the big club took a huge step back this season (Ike, Duda obviously) All we have is shyt and grossly overpaid former good players who have no market. this team is a mess, fukk what you heard.

fukk this organization from top to bottom for holding onto Hariston. In years past decent players have brought back decent players if it's a prospect that lost his way or one that has flown under the radar. You won't get a star back but you will get something to build towards the future, just look at 2006 when they traded Jorge Julio which netted us John Maine as a throw in. A few years ago a crappy Austin Kearns netted the Indians Zack McAllister. The Pirates got James Mcdonald for Dotel. The O's got Strop for Mike Gonzalez. Jason Bay may suck now but before coming he here had a very good career and he was never a highly touted prospect that happened to be a throw away in a trade too. fukk this organization for not moving Hariston trying to push this is a competitive team. The shytty fukking stadium will be just as empty if they win 78 games or 71 games. Hariston won't be here next year, he isn't worth a long term extension and even if he was he has priced himself out of range for the Mets

fukk Sandy Alderson for doing nothing, fukk him for waiting for the wheels to fall off in the pen so he wouldn't have to make a move. fukk him for sitting on anything valuable that could have improved the long term forecast of this organization.

fukk that computer nerd Depo

fukk JP Ricardi just because

fukk that functioning illiterate Omar Minaya for creating this mess

And most of all, fukk Fred and Jeff Wilpon for being the worst owners in Baseball. fukk them for running this mess. fukk them for their lack of planning and thinking the fans are a group of morons buying this team is competitive bull shyt. Call me cold or tell me my priorities are fukked up but the day Fred Wilpon dies will be a happy day for Mets fans.

AdamRubinESPN All I know is for a month, there were multiple AL scouts watching Hairston and telling me they'd love to have him.

No plan whatsoever

Sandy Alderson will be chatting with beat writers at 4:30 p.m. ET, 30 minutes after the deadline.

Alderson has been up front for while. Agree or disagree, he wanted to keep 2012 team competitive, stick to "plan" and not mortgage future.

And that adds up to inaction.

I don't agree about maximizing the win total of a non-playoff team, but whatever.

All I know is for a month, there were multiple AL scouts watching Hairston and telling me they'd love to have him.

Two collapses, then en route to 4th straight losing season. Four legs good. Two legs bad./ RT @burkettsoccer4: Your so negative toward mets.

Its pretty simple..you look around the league and you see who's committed to winning..whether it be for now or the future
