Even though it would crush most fans, it makes the most sense.
Unless we go hard in the off-season at pitchers like Shawn Marcum or Annibal in the off-season, while making a push for BJ or Swisher, then we might as well trade Wright and dikkey.
Peter Bourjos(25 yo CF on the Angels who can field; hit, and run pretty good), Garrett Richards(Angels top pitching prospect), Jeremy Hellickson(good 25 yo pitch to contact starter for the Rays, would excel in Citi) are all players the Mets could use, and they could be easily attainable.
Murphy and Duda would get you Hellickson, while dikkey(right now) would get you Garrett Richards and probably Bourjos. Wright would net you Bourjos; Richards, and 2 of their top 10 prospects(which are a year or less away from the majors). Also Wright is a possible trade candidate with the Reds as well.
Rebuilding isn't too far-fetched to consider, when we've been mediocre for the past 3 years, and it doesn't look like it'll change any time soon. David Wright is having his best year ever, and will never play this high again. Santana is a 33 year old #3 starter coming off Tommy John, and dikkey is a 38 yr old #3 who'll leave after 2013. Unless we plan on making moves this off-season, then we should start selling now w/ dikkey and Hairston and Brydak as well.
