Divergent Sequel to Begin Shooting in May
Still no director set for Insurgent.
by Max Nicholson FEBRUARY 4, 2014
Insurgent, the franchise sequel to Lionsgate's Divergent, will launch into production this May, just two months after the release of the first movie on March 21.
Last week, the studio announced that Akiva Goldsman would be coming in to work on the Insurgent script after Brian Duffield completed the first draft. Meanwhile, Variety reports that a new director has yet to be selected, following the news in December that Divergent director Neil Burger would not be returning to helm the sequel.
As of right now, Insurgent is still on track to meet its targeted March 20, 2015 release, with the third installment, Allegiant, slated for March 18, 2016.
Based on the YA book series by Veronica Roth, Divergent stars Shailene Woodley as Beatrice Prior, who lives in a dystopian society divided into five factions. All 16-year-olds are required on a particular day to pick the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives.
