People get medals, coins, ribbons, commendation for all types of bullsh1t - many times it's political. I collect them like candy. Only thing that matters are those bars/birds/stars on you collar and stripes on your sleeves.

they are worth more so they get better treatment. Welcome to real world.

in starcraft, who do you care about more? The battlecruisiers that take time and resources to create, or those marines that players to send out to die half of the time

basically in the end bravery and skill are completely unconnected so if you're ranking along one axis you'll have this problem

i have an uncle who was in vietnam.
His platoon was ambushed and all but wiped out, he survived after the battle, having been shot in the leg by laying in a ditch and covering himself. The VC stayed patrolling in ear shot of my uncle for about 12 hours, sorta like they set up camp. All the while my uncle was getting chewed on by ants, his legs, arms and back have all these bite marks and shyt on them because had he moved or screamed or did much of anything they'd have shot him. 12 hours later he was able to get away after they enemy left. He got a purple heart.

Dudes risk life and limb protecting one another, dying for one another and those dudes get LESS respect than someone, who for all intents and purposes is PLAYING A VIDEO GAME.

This is in no way shape or form "fair" or right, in fact it's disgraceful. It is however how things go.

I was about to come in and say something along these lines but daze has a point.

On a serious note shouldn't this be about the team.



It's not about one person or a squad or battalion... it's about group effort.

If it weren't for logistics and everyone else involved none of the operations would be possible.

I was about to come in and say something along these lines but daze has a point.

depends.
Some of those medals you can get for saving lives...flying a drone is not saving a life.

Some you get for rescuing people from a burning pentagon after it's had a plane flown into it...flying a drone is not rescuing people form an attack.

Flying a drone is not heroic. It's not valiant.

BUT....

IF say while flying a drone you blow up a truck with a nuke in it on it's way to kill 1000000 troops..that's pretty fukin heroic.

The medals they have are pretty broad in their potential application.

On that same note, does the guy who get's hit with a rock and earns a purple heart on par with say...my uncle?

Both would recieve the same purple heart.

IT's not as black and white as i thought it could be that's for damn sure. We need like degrees of medals now...

1st degree purple heart is you tripped and landed on a dead enemies exposed bayonet giving yourself a flesh wound.

10th degree purple heart's would only be handed out to dudes that are more artificial limb than human. Everyone else falls in that range.

Same thing with this drone medal.

1st degree drone medal is you dropped a bomb on a wedding from 1000 feet away....

10th degree drone medal is you flew into the deathstar via that one ventilation shaft that was woefully under protected, dropped a bomb and thereby saved the universe.

I was gonna bring this up too. the Purple Heart really just means you got injured in combat. I try to say that in a gental way that takes nothing away from the many truly heroic stories that no doubt do go along with the medal

Taking a life in any capacity is a big deal. They should really keep their opinions to themselves.
