Yahoo is heading the way of AOL. What is their offering anyway? They lost the search engine war, the email game is wack, their content is lame, they haven't extended their brand into smart phones like Google.

Why do people still care about Yahoo?

They got yahoo finance and they have a huge stake in some Chinese casino or something called Ali Baba. I know the Ali Baba thing is worth a ton of money.
other than that though I don't really know.

The crazy part is, the yahoo brand still carries weight with people 30 and up for some reason, even though yahoo has not been really relevant in the last 7 years

The scary this is I think they're trying to figure that out themselves.
I know they tried to buy a few companies and get involved in some new markets but nothing panned out. The last time I was actively involved in the stock market, Yahoo stock was in the mid 30's.

@Domingo Halliburton or @Gallo could probably help you out

Funny, I wrote a paper on the long-term prospects of Yahoo - SWOT analysis and the whole nine. If I can find it will post it. Their only long-term solution was to partner(but that's over since they scuttled a deal with Microsoft a few years go - who then attempted to acquire them). I see them getting acquired eventually, it's over. Marissa Mayer has her work cut out for her.

Meanwhile Marissa Mayer has childcare delivered for her family onsite at yahoo as part of her salary package. Why not do the same for the folks who have a family and the demands are as such where this will make things worse having to take away the one or two days a week they have to work from home.

:why:

They are rearranging chairs on the Titanic at this point. They have no product that I am aware of that differentiates Yahoo from competitors or trends in general over the long term.

Technology companies aimed primarily at consumers have a really short shelf life. They have to reinvent themselves every few years or die. Google and Apple
may be the only exceptions so far and even they can't rest on their laurels.

shyt....you're right. Sometimes I forget Yahoo even exists, like the idea that Yahoo & Google once competed with each other is :ohhh: to me.

I use Yahoo as a spam email receptacle and that is about it and I don't know anyone who swears by Yahoo's search engine. So if she thinks doing away with telecommuting is going to turn things around then she is a moron and if I were the folks who hired her I would be a bit worried that her first major initiative was something so ridiculous.

Everyone working from home does the same exact fukking thing – you wake up and login to your IM/Chat/Messenger service so you’re “active” and go back to sleep for an extra hour. Watch Price is Right at 11am. Move the mouse around so that you still have a “green dot.” Send a couple emails, watch a TNT or TBS movie. Maybe make one phone call if you’re feeling ambitious. And you call it a day at about 4pm.
