New Balance was the first shoe company to price their shoe (990v1) at $100 in 1982 which would be $265.69 today.

In the mid 80s they dropped the 1300 for $130 ($309 in today's money!) and told nikkas to mortgage the house

They got cheap models out there but the Made in the USA/UK 99x and the 1300 models have always been set at a luxury price.
