Let me tell you something... the overwhelming majority of folks in the hood/or projects, is going to cosign Stevie for the most part.....
What's funny is Stevie is from the hood and came up during the civil rights era putting in work. He still visits Black youth centers and puts in work yet you got arm chair internet activists calling this man a c00n.

The Land That Time Forgot
At north Minneapolis peace summit, Stevie Wonder joins plea to end street violence
Young people mired in poverty need help to end the cycle of violence, say leaders at summit.
By Randy Furst and Libor Jany Star Tribune

JUNE 17, 2017 — 9:42PM

RANDY FURST, STAR TRIBUNE
Musician Stevie Wonder joined a peace conference in Minneapolis and Saturday and urged those there to join the effort.
Several hundred people — parents, pastors and business leaders among them — gathered Saturday in north Minneapolis for the second day of a “peace conference” focused on the enduring problem of young people shooting one another on city streets.

The speakers, including legendary singer Stevie Wonder and civil rights leader Benjamin Chavis, decried the number of young people being cut down by bullets in their own neighborhoods. Part of the solution, they said, is to offer young people caught up in poverty and dysfunction an alternative to street warfare, which has intensified in Minneapolis in recent weeks.

Wonder said that some of the violence has its roots in historical trauma. “You cannot say ‘black lives matter,’ and then kill yourselves,” he said, closing the event by performing renditions of his hits, “Love’s in Need of Love Today” and “Higher Ground.”

“The first thing you must do is stop believing the fallacy of you not being important,” he said. “Because it is completely unacceptable for one to hate themselves so much that anyone that looks like you, you want to kill.”

The conference was organized by the Rev. Jerry McAfee, pastor at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where the gathering was held, and by Sharif Willis, a leader of the Vice Lords, a Chicago-based gang that Willis prefers to describe as a subcultural organization whose leaders now reject violence.

The event took on new urgency with the fatal shooting of a man early Saturday near Webber Park, less than 2 miles from the church. The homicide was the city’s 15th of the year and the sixth slaying in two weeks.

I have no issue with a black man speaking to a completely black audience deploring inner city violence.

I do however have a HUGE problem with black people not knowing that Black Lives Matter is about police brutality against black people, which has NOTHING to do with how black people treat ourselves.
A cursory glance at history will prove time and time again that no matter the status, attire, speech, action of black people, the police have always been against us.

I wish black speakers would simply stop conflating the two issues.

Its annoying and borders on intellectual dishonesty

Once again, I have no problem with his message. I do have a problem with him using it to paint BLM and protest against police brutality in a negative light.

As if there is a magical violence ratio we need to get under before we are allowed to protest police killing us :stopitslime:

Some of the old ones will, but not the young and middle-aged. Riddle me this, when you take oppressed people and throw them in a at do you expect? Piss poor resources, health care, un diagnosed mental disabilities, and etc. Sh-t goes super deep. As I always say, "African-Americans are mainly naked people with clothes on". Meaning, that we don't have a true identity or a religion like others.

Naw, I've been in touch with my Blackness since 2010. However, I became more aware in 2014. I've seen it and known young people that died personally in the streets.

@Mr.Silver

I'll read it but you misunderstand one thing the side with the power doesn't consider the other group as human, this is why we are in this situation we are in because of one group thinking it's superior to the point they'll kill our children drive-by style . .I grew up in the hood we all felt like life had fukked us over and couldn't figure out why not knowing the information was around us we just didn't have the means to access this information so we went on hurting each other people died we thought we were the enemy again because information was denied to us by a common enemy it took searching for that information myself and educating those around me to realize all this is because of one group, the reason my people cracked out can all be aimed back at one group, the reason my people get incarcerated at a higher rate can be pinpointed back to one group . .they hide behind laws,

Like you I blamed my own people because I didn't have the knowledge. . but once I got it I knew

Injustice is killing you and handcuffing you and playing as if your still alive and having the paramedics fake like your corpse is just unconscious
Philando-Castile-death-face.gif
Look into his eyes, he didn't die because of black on black crime if he had he could have died knowing he'd at least get justice, instead he was killed complying, I've left the hood but I haven't forgot shyt I just know my enemy is bigger and more real than the nikka in the hood. The nikka in the hood is misguided or doesn't give a fukk because he feel life has nothing to offer and it doesn't because the enemy, the real enemy makes sure we have nothing to look forward to. Picture an enemy you can't fight because if you do you'll get arrested, either way you lose you either die or go to jail so you pray that if you comply the cop won't shoot you in front of your girlfriend and her daughter and he still does, and after you die the torture doesn't end because this corrupt system goes into overtime using every resource at it's hand social media, news outlet, television, newspapers all just to destroy your character and dehumanize you. I want to stop the system that targets both spectrum of black people the so called good ones and bad one's because even if you try to be a "good negr . ." they'll still get you.

Yet you want me to worry about Daquan, he's a symptom I can't hope to fix him and if I do fix him more will be churned out because I haven't went to the cause of the problem. Daquan isn't a bad person, hell I could have been Daquan born into a life of poverty with no positive reinforcement, teachers that don't give a fukk, drug infested neighborhoods, How the fukk can I hope to save Daquan with so much going against him he thinks the people around him are the enemy and the people around him happen to be black. Meanwhile he's got a criminal record stopping him from getting access to jobs in a society were even with a college degree as a black man/woman your equal to Bob or Brittney who dropped out of high schoo. Black on black crime will happen as others have stated time and time again because that's what we are in close proximity too if we want to lower that we have to go to the root cause of the problem systematic oppression.

You say we don't care about our own I say you don't care because you refuse to acknowledge the very reason so much killing goes on within our neighborhoods, you blame the symptom but not the cause, and this isn't directed to just you this is directed to those that agree with you as well. You yourself dehumanize your people when you insinuate we don't care about our brothers and sisters gunned down by each other, as if we don't have threads reprimanding that very fukkery.

In the sky
Stevie said that black lives should matter
(all of the damn time) not only when pigs

kill us......to call Stevie wonder a c00n shows
how fukked up this generation of dainty fakkits
really is.
alot of nikkas treat the shyt like christmas and funerals.
for that one day were together and give a fukk....
after that it's bullshyt as usual.
I live in St louis and shyt has gotten worst since
the death of Mike brown....ask anybody that lives here.
if you throw a rock in a pack of dogs....the only dog that
yelp should be the one that got hit with the rock.
those that are ten toes for the cause should have
cheered loader at his remarks because the rock didnt hit them.
:ehh:

When the fux don't they. You act like black "communities" all over the country dont have marches and rallies against violence? Or they are not talking about problems with gangs anywhere in their area. In the words of Pimp C: "Stop it with the BOO BOO!" They do always matter, and Stevie might just be a c00n for trying to use that trite argument.
