Ori is a metriodvania, definitely not a pure platformer at all.
Even within the “metroidvania” distinction there are very different genres of games.

Ori is platforming based. It should be compared to games like celest and super meat boy.

All those games you listed aren't even “metroidvanias”

You got a rouge like, a soulslike up there.

You just listed a bunch of random 2D games.

This is like comparing Mario Odyssey to Dark souls cause they are both 3D :mjlol:
Yeah, definitely. It does have a greater focus on platforming that most MVs do, but it's still definitively a metroidvania. Actually, Ori 2 improved its combat immensely and became more combat focused as well because of it.
Even the increased combat is still platforming based. You are jumping off heads to make it to the next platform, not sword fighting and upgrading/crafting weapons and armor.

Makes zero sense to compare a game like ori to something like blasphemous. :stopitslime:

Ori is platformer like mario and Celeste 🦥

Straight on the store page they are calling it a platformer.

Now check the pages for those other games. What do their devs call them?? :jbhmm:

Uhh...did you not actually play the sequel, lol? It's literally about getting a variety of extra melee and projectile based weapons, much more akin to standard metroidvanias. Ori was doing the head jumps as a main attack more in the first game. I believe it is still technically there in the 2nd game, but the focus is definitely more towards combat. The first game, you barely had real boss fights. Not direct combat ones anyway. You moreso had scripted set piece chase sequences, similar to uncharted, but in 2d. The sequel is littered with boss fights and you damn sure ain't primarily jumping off their heads to beat them. You're usually ever melee and projectile weapon in your disposal, along with various and lightly customizable upgrades.

Even in the boss fights, platforming was your best weapon.

There’s “bosses” in a Mario game, but it’s still a damn platfomer :stopitslime:

Ori is and always has been structured to be a platforming focused metroidvania. It is not Mario platforming. You'd know the difference if you actually played these games instead of playing your favorite online game of arguing with nikkas online over semantics and dumb shyt. It won't hurt you to admit that your wrong sometimes, fool.

Breh, i’ve played all of these games, no way in hell would i compare Ori to fukkin Blasphemous, or either one of those to Dead Cells.

As always you goofy nikkas just like to argue with me:camby:

Imagine these developers making a full blown Metroidvania.

I see their vision in artful expression, but it would be dope.
