This is incorrect.

Console sales have been on the decline for decades now, while every other sector of gaming is growing.

I agree there will probably always be a market for consoles and console style games.

But from an investment standpoint, consoles and console games are already the least promising sector of the industry.
Not decades..it's been been up and down with an overall trend downwards.

Nobody is saying consoles are dead, just that adults are the primary consumers.

The people who were into consoles 20-30 years ago as kids are the same people still interested in them now. Which is fine.
Consoles are more expensive these days. A parent can't justify spending over 60 dollars on a brand new game for their child with the cost of everything going up and wages not rising either to make things more affordable.

Even if you're going to build a PC, the cost of a mid range gpu is higher than a console itself. People are being priced out of the industry. Kids are lifelong customers but if your product is too expensive for their parents to afford, they'll never get that attachment to the hobby and stick with it. It really doesn't help that most games now have no offline multi-player component.

When most posters here were children they could at least play games like golden eye, halo or call of duty at their friends houses. Now there's no equivalent. Switch sales are through the roof because it's an affordable system and it has games with offline multi-player and replay value.

Sony and Microsoft COULD make affordability the focus of their next consoles, but like with most of big tech they aren't seeing 5 to 10 years into the future, they're seeing 3 months into the future. They're obsessed with quarterly gains like an addict that is focused on his next hit rather than if he will survive another 5 years and still have a home and a job.

Not entirely wrong. I think being able to stream powerful games on smaller devices is the future for sure. iPhone/Switch/GamePass type experiences. The thing is the PS6 will easily be able to accommodate that if they keep going with the Portal line, or a standalone Portal. Kids don't have disposable income like that, you still have to appeal to the people buying the thing.
Bingo!

The kids of today? Mobile gaming and Switch are their preferences, but I'm not sure Netflix is the company to take advantage of that. M$ has enough money to throw at any problem. Sony is still Sony and is the Coca Cola of gaming. Nintendo has figured out how to combine mobile game with standard console gaming.

"Mobile" gaming is the future but Netflix cac talks as if HIS company is the one that will benefit. My guess is the mobile space will be #1 but the $$$ will be split up among more entities while the console market will remain consolidated. Barriers to entry will be too high. Those with disposable income will always go console or PC (or both) and mobile game on the side. The current kids will eventually want more from mobile gaming....at least you'd think so.

Probably a bit too early for this sentiment though I do think that this will be true at some point.

Cross Gen support going on this long is the reason why it’ll be more pointless to upgrade. That and the fact that games last longer than ever

“Gaming” as we know it is some old nikka shyt.

Kids litter lay don’t care about any of the stuff we spend our energy on here debating about.

“console style” games will probably always have their audience, but we don’t even have to speculate. Right now, today, in 2025 consoles and console style games have already lost their dominance over the industry. There’s no indication that, that trend will reverse any time soon. :manny:

This if we take a look at the games that are making big money for games it’s not triple AAA games it’s gaas and a lot of these kids play those games on all different platforms.

When Kai Cenat and Speed do their GTA 6 stream, every 8 year old will want it.
Kai Cenat and GTA6 for an 8 year old is crazy.

I got a 10 and 9 year old and none of that type stuff is on their radar.

They play fortnight and roblox.

They view Kai and GTA as old nikka shyt.

And beyond that, the draw of GTA all these years has been PC mods, so if anything watching streamers play GTA is making kids want PCs not consoles.

8 year old makes sense to me. My two nephews were more than fine with phone/tablet/Switch games till they hit 11. From that point forward they wanted a gaming PC or a PS5 because that's what the people they watch on Youtube talk about the most when it comes to games.
